This is going to be EPIC!!!….Okay this is seriously big and I’m really scared of my next challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited but at the same time I’m slightly sh****g myself. I’m going to be cycling 100+miles every day for 4 days! Yes, that’s exactly 440miles!
About 2 weeks ago I was given a chance to take part in the Ride Across Britain race (‘only’ the Scotland Package) and cycle for Team Adidas. I was intrigued by the invite and the whole challenge straightaway…but…I haven’t cycled for a while as I just moved to London. I’ve been Ultra running for the whole August but did only a few turbo sessions. So I’m sort of hoping my ultra running legs can somehow transformed into cycling legs.
Luckily, I’m not going to be in this big … on my own – Emma (Lunges&Lycra) is cycling it with me. Basically, we’re the only ones who are not PRO cyclists on the team. So I guess our aim is to simply survive, that’s it!
All the kit but no clue….is definitely us. We’ve received a full race kit, the new Adidas Cycling range which looks awesome. We also went to Decathlon the other day to buy some last cycling essentials such as spare tubes, puncture repair kit, sunglasses and I bought myself a new helmet too.
We’re taking on the Scotland Package which starts on Day 6.
Emma + Lenka Day 1 – Thursday
Our first day of the race starts at Penrith and finished in Hamilton. That’s 100miles!
Emma + Lenka Day 2 – Friday
On Friday we will need to cycle 127miles and this will be our longest ride of the race. It starts in Hamilton and finished in Fort William. Please note the difficulty level (5 out of 5 stars!)…I’m going to die….ouch! But they last 10miles of the day will be flat…yay…
Emma + Lenka Day 3 – Saturday
Third day is always the hardest right?!…Well we will be riding from Fort William to Kyle of Sutherland; 111miles in total. I’m quite excited about this 3rd day as the route will take us alongside the banks of Loch Ness and Ben Nevis and I’ve never been there. BUT Seriously, look at the route profile; it’s insane! I don’t think we can even walk it and not cycle it.
Emma + Lenka Day 4 – Sunday – THE LAST DAY
If we make it to the last day we will ‘only’ need to cycle for 104miles (easy peasy…not). We will climb up (yeap CLIMB UP) from Kyle of Sutherland to the two highest points of the day Cnoc Staign and Strath Vagastie. After attacking those 2 ‘little’ hills we will hopefully somehow crawl to the finish line at John O’Groats.
So yeah that’s it! Easy right?!……please, please pray for us everyday – we will need it!!!
GOD HELP US!!!
