I have found in the last few months that the easiest way to lose excess kilos is to stick fairly rigidly to a lower carbohydate intake. I had never really thought about carbs before a relative explained the significance of the keto diet and I had therefore never actually appreciated how many carbs I was consuming per day. When said relative suggested we sit down and I list everything I eat on an averate day, the list of high carb foods mounted up. Starting with the much beloved porridge, with a little butter and whole milk for breakfast with a coffee and some sort of biscuit or cake for 11’s. This was followed by beans on toast or cheese on toast for lunch or in summer quite often a salad with the addition of potato salad. My evening meal was generally potatoes with other veg and meat or fish added. Using a well known method for working out the carbohydrate levels, I was way up in the 500-600 grams per day bracket.
The most sucessful and healthiest weight losses involve removing as many carbs per day as possible – and learning a whole new regime so as not to consume anove 20gm of carbs per day. I have had to leave out much of the toast/bread, potatoes, carrots, apples, boiled sweets, any other sweets (chocolate!). I have found cauliflower a good substitute for potatoes and I eat lots of brocolli and I now consume a lot of eggs a week. They are fantastic to help me rebuild muscle strength which is often lacking in an older person – like me!
